Erin Hart and Paddy O’ Brien

Erin HartPaddy Obrien

“It was the cold that roused him. The moment he plunged into the frigid water at the bottom of the bog hole, his eyes fluttered open, and his mind grasped the fact that he would certainly die here.”
from Prologue, Lake of Sorrows

Erin Hart’s novels combine forensics, archaeology, and history with Irish myth and mystery. Set partly in Minnesota and Ireland, her stories have won Best First Mystery and Friends of the American Writers awards and have been nominated for Anthony and Agatha recognition and short-listed for the Minnesota Book Award. Hart notes, “There’s something about Ireland’s complex and contradictory nature, all those layers of history one on top of the other—that lends a particular resonance to the kinds of stories I feel compelled to tell.” O’Brien has collected more than 3,000 compositions and recorded some 500 tunes for his Personal Treasury. During their presentation he’ll give people a taste of dance music like jigs and reels, or set the tone for a reading with an expressive air or an old harpers’ tune.
