Traci Thomas-Card and Kristin Chang

Traci Thomas-Card is an Associate Lecturer of English at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she teaches courses in composition, literature, and English as a second language. She also serves as co-advisor for the Theta Zeta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Her current research interests focus on studies of gender, sexuality, and multiculturalism in contemporary literature and popular culture.

Kristin Chang is a student partner with Thomas-Card on this research project. She has served as president of UW-Eau Claire’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta since the fall of 2009. She is pursuing a degree in English Education with a Spanish Education minor.

This project is part of the Summer Research experience for Undergraduates and Diversity mentoring Program Grants through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at UW-Eau Claire. The program series is cosponsored by the UW-Eau Claire English Department, the Elizabeth G. Morris Scholarship fund and L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.

Series Summary
“Learning about Hmong Culture — The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir by Kao Kalia Yang” is presented by Traci Thomas-Card and Kristin Chang, focusing on the life of Hmong refugees in the Midwest. Sessions will include an introduction to the history and culture of the Hmong people, their journey from refugee camps to their settlement in the United States, and discussions of The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir by Kao Kalia Yang. Yang will speak at the 2010 Chippewa Valley Book Festival.
