I am deeply sorry that I couldn’t be with you today. Wisconsin Field to Fork is a passion project that has meant a great deal to me, and I was very much looking forward to sharing insights and engaging in discussion with you. But, as I’ve learned, we can’t always control our circumstances.
My hope is that you will enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
The exercise of getting to know farmers, even just a little bit, is an inspiring undertaking. It will change the way you think about the food you source, the meals you cook and the restaurants you support.
My experience curating the recipes and capturing the stories of the local farmers for this book was one I’ll never forget. Before I began, I thought I had an appreciation for local food and the work of the amazing farmers throughout Wisconsin. But every conversation I had with a farmer deepened not only my respect for their dedication, but my gratefulness for the incredibly difficult work they do each day. My hope is that the book captures a modicum of those feelings and piques readers' interest in both getting to know and supporting their local farms.

Lori Fredrich will share the inspiration behind Wisconsin Field to Fork, a unique cookbook which weaves the stories of local farmers with 70 chef-driven recipes using Wisconsin-grown ingredients.
Attendees will be able to sample a few recipes from the book as part of the presentation.

LORI FREDRICH is an avid cook whose accrual of condiments and spices is rivaled only by her cookbook collection. Her passion for the culinary industry was birthed while balancing A&W root beer mugs as a teenage carhop, fed by insatiable curiosity and fueled by the people whose stories entwined with each and every dish.
She’s had the privilege of chronicling these tales through her work as Dining Editor at OnMilwaukee and in her books Milwaukee Food and Wisconsin Field to Fork. As a passionate champion of the local dining scene, Lori has reimagined the traditional restaurant critic’s role into that of a trusted dining concierge, guiding food lovers to new culinary discoveries and memorable experiences.
Her work has garnered journalism awards from entities including the Milwaukee Press Club. Lori is also a 2024 recipient of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association’s “Top 20 Women in Hospitality to Watch” award.
